LUXEMBOURG

Too few people prioritize visiting Luxembourg, but those who do are blown away by its unique blend of architecture, rolling countryside, and lush vineyards! Located in the heart of Europe, this beautiful country is landlocked between Belgium, France, and Germany. While it may not be large, it has a very strong, proud personality! This is embodied in the country’s national motto: “Mir wëlle bleiwe wat mir sinn”, which translates to “We want to remain the way we are”. In Luxembourg, wealth is abundant and life is slow. Visit for yourself to experience its magic!

  • Communication:

    • The language spoken in Luxembourg is Luxembourgish - a derivative and mixture of French and German. Most locals will know all three languages as well as English!

  • Transportation:

    • Train: Rail travel is free within the borders of Luxembourg. Tickets can be purchased through their national transportation service, Mobilitéitszentral. For international tickets, book through Rail Europe. Trains run in and out of Luxembourg City daily from all three neighboring countries (Belgium, Germany, and France).

    • Bus: Travel by bus is also free within Luxembourg. Tickets can be purchased through their national transportation service, Mobilitéitszentral. For international bus travel, tickets can be purchased through Flixbus.

    • Airplane: Air travel is not feasible within Luxembourg because it only has one airport, which is outside of Luxembourg City - Luxembourg Airport (LUX). In addition to Lux Air, the country’s flag carrier, many of Europe’s popular airlines service LUX, including British Airways, easyJet, KLM, Lufthansa, Ryanair, SAS, Turkish Airlines, etc.

    • Taxi/Uber: Uber is not legal in Luxembourg, but they have a similar service called WEBTAXI. While you can readily find these (and normal taxis) in Luxembourg City, I would not count on finding them elsewhere across the country.

    • Private Transportation: For those who do not prefer public transportation, there are private options. Depending on the size of your group, you can book anything from a sedan to a bus. Book through Shuttle Direct!

  • Miscellaneous:

    • As alluded to above, Luxembourg became the first country in the world to offer free public transportation in 2020. The transportation system (made up of trains, trams, and buses) covers the entire country and is free for both tourists and locals alike!

    • Luxembourg is where you will find the world’s only remaining Grand Duchy (a state or territory ruled by a grand duke or duchess)!
